Usage of Copernicus Data and the labour market

(Dr. Guillaume Hajduch)

Copernicus Sentinel data is not only available for scientists, it is also used for central Copernicus services and can feed specific commercial applications. The first part of this course summarise the background of the Copernicus programme, how the data are used in Copernicus' central services and how they are made available to users. The evolution of data access via "DiaS" (Access to Data and Infrastructure as Services) will also be presented. The second part of the course will present the opportunities of the job opportunities based on an ecosystem derived from Copernicus data. The objective is to present the main institutional and industrial players in this ecosystem (who does what?), thus offering students a broad view of potential recruiters and their specific needs (knowledge, experience and required qualifications).

Examples of Copernicus central services and download services are used. The last part of this course presents examples of Copernicus Sentinel data for maritime applications in industry. The objective is to present an end-to-end use of Sentinel data for a range of maritime applications from ship detection to polluter identification to oil spill monitoring.
